Chestnut Hill Book Festival 2012 PS Workshops
The Chestnut Hill Book Festival is back on Sunday, September 30 with a day of celebrating literature in Chestnut Hill. Philadelphia Stories will host the following events at the Bombay Room at the Chestnut Hill Hotel:

11:30-12:45: Performance Practices for Writers Facilitator: Carla Spataro, Editorial Director, Philadelphia Stories
Learn how to best prepare to read your work. Practice really does make perfect, but there’s so much more to engaging an audience. We’ve all been at those readings and have been disappointed when the author never bothers to look up from the page, or is so nervous that he or she reads as if racing to the end. We’ll talk about sample selection, length, delivery, and will do hands on exercises to increase your comfort level in front of an audience. Please bring a one page (double spaced) sample of your work (for prose) or a single poem (for poetry). Dress comfortably as we will engage in some relaxation techniques that will require you to move around.

2:15-3:30: Shaping a Story workshop
Facilitator: Susan Barr Toman
This hands-on workshop will explore the writing process and help you shape your characters, plot, and voice into a dynamic story.

Workshops are $10 and open to the public. All proceeds help keep Philadelphia Stories in print and free. Walk-ins welcome, but to register in advance, email christine@philadelphiastories.org
